How to care for candles? Practical advice for everyone!

You're probably wondering whether you take proper care of your candles so that they serve you as long as possible and give you a beautiful scent and please the eye? Follow our simple tips on how to care for traditional candles and scented candles. Importantly, these few rules can easily become your positive habit and require virtually no effort!

How to care for traditional candles (block, decorative, etc.)?

  • Don't place your candles in direct sunlight! This is important both in summer and winter - sunlight can discolor the wax and even melt it (especially if you place the candle on the windowsill in the afternoon sun!). The candle may also begin to melt, resulting in changes in shape.
  • Always place the candle on a stand or tray - whether it is lit or not. This is important because the wax may discolor a delicate surface, e.g. veneer. If the wax contains dye, you may receive a surprise on your rustic table in the form of a colorful circle. Choose a candle stand or plate that will not only protect the delicate surface underneath, but will also be a great decoration! You can also choose a fashionable lantern or lantern or a classic candlestick.
  • Trim your candle wick before lighting it! Thanks to this, your candle will burn evenly and cleanly. Too long a wick may cause smoke and uneven burning. Most reputable manufacturers recommend trimming the wick to approximately 5 mm. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Don't place traditional candles too close to each other when burning them! You can see great looking candles in many beautiful arrangement photos. that touch each other. However, when you light them, too high a temperature will cause the wax to melt unevenly and the candles may spill or stick together! Always respect the distance between candles, which reputable candle manufacturers place in the form of practical pictograms on each candle (sometimes you have to remove the sticker because they are placed underneath).
  • Never place candles in a draft, on a windowsill next to an open window, next to curtains or other flammable materials. Do not leave burning candles unattended or in the company of children or pets.
  • Is your candle dusty? There are several ways to remove dust - you can use... baby wipes. The old and proven method with thin, elastic stockings or tights will also work perfectly. Simply wipe the candle with your stocking and watch it look like new in a flash! Of course, there are types of varnish on candles that should not be cleaned this way, so always try this method on an inconspicuous place.
  • Use candle extinguishers to extinguish candles. Wick trimmers are perfect for trimming wicks.

How to care for scented candles?

  • As with traditional candles, scented candles exposed to social rays may discolor and dissolve. While they are usually in glass and will later return to their original shape, the wick may be flooded. Additionally, leaving the candle at too high a temperature causes unwanted fragrance diffusion - especially if the scented candle does not have a cover.
  • The fragrance in a scented candle can be released even when it is not lit. If you have a scented candle with a cover, remember to close the candle each time you extinguish it. If your candle doesn't have a lid, you can use your favorite vase or even a jar to cover it. Of course, if you value beautiful solutions, we recommend glass candle shades, which you can buy in our stationary stores.
  • To ensure that your scented candle produces a beautiful, strong scent, always remember to trim the wick to the length recommended by the manufacturer (usually 5 mm, trimmed before each lighting).
  • To ensure that the candle burns evenly and does not create a "tunnel", always burn the candle for at least long enough for the wax to dissolve over the entire volume of the candle (usually about 4 hours for paraffin candles, and from 2.5 to 3 hours for natural candles - from vegetable wax). In our Candle World store you will find the largest selection of soy candles.
  • If you have a scented candle in a glass, tin or ceramic casing, remember that it can get hot! Therefore, place such a candle on a stand.
  • If you have many scented candles and use them interchangeably, it is a good idea to store the unused ones in a cooler place, away from direct light.
